Restrain the Wild Growth
Wood is a raw material which yields to the artist's hand.
It can be used as is - natural, wild, eruptive… but it can also be used in designing furniture.
In these works both possibilities are juxstaposed - a shapely wooden picture frame encloses the root of a tree, its curvy arms carefully manipulated by the artist to enhance their presence. Or, a polished background which serves as a restraining device holding back the root's heroic attempts to break away. This notion is repeated as bamboo sticks pierce a piece of curved furniture but their root is left as it is, locked inside.
